About Kris Hines – counsellor, facilitator, coach      Kris Hines

I have been working in the depth self development field as a counselling therapist, coach, educator and group facilitator since the late 80s and have a Diploma of Counselling, membership of the Australian Counselling Association (M.A.C.A.), a Diploma of Teaching and M.A. in Education.

Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes. - Carl Jung

I am also trained in voice dialogue facilitation, bereavement counselling, applied Jungian theory and dream work, and conflict resolution.

A good part of my training has been experiential in the above modalities and I draw on all this experiential work and on what I have found inspiring, invaluable and useful in my own life, with its various challenges and ups and downs. I have also completed the Landmark Forum’s Curriculum for Living. My years of Jungian exploration have probably had the most impact because it works so deeply and wholistically, as well as being so creative and spiritually rich.

Over the years I have helped many individuals find new, more empowered and positive relationships with themselves, their lives and others. I have supported them to access the wisdom, inner strength, skills and tools they needed to address and resolve their challenges – whether within relationships and family of origin conflicts, dealing with separation, loss or abuse, or exploring and opening up the spiritual aspect of their  life meaning and purpose – that authenticity which is unique to each of us.

Kris's awareness tool A Spiral of Wisdom explores both our outward movement towards growth and fulfilment and the movement inwards which deepens our understanding of ourself and our life and our connection with the authentic self.

In therapy there is often a point when enough of the pain has been understood and attended to that the person can at last see the forest for the trees. The preoccupation is then free to shift from the internal pain, to an awareness of the beginnings of something truly new awakening in them: a new part of herself or himself emerges, an old power is reclaimed, a different place from which to live begins to be established.

My work is focussed on assisting individuals and couples to identify where they are struggling and suffering and then to find and put into action the pathway towards change that is right and meaningful for them. I am always inspired by the uniqueness of us humans and what we each bring to our worlds of relationships, work and creative expression. My goal is to honour and support your uniqueness and help you develop the tools, clarity, freedom and strength to express it where you wish to, using the darker times as fuel for wisdom and new life.

My work has incorporated private practice, professional development training for organisations, community education and prison and drug and alcohol services. Having previously worked in Sydney, New York and India, I am now based in the Sunshine Coast, sometimes running workshops for counsellors’ professional development and at the Relaxation Centre of Brisbane and other venues on such themes as resilience, resolving difficult conflict, assertiveness, finding meaning and strength in tough times and voice dialogue, as well as workshops for couples.

One of the tools I have developed for working with life meaning and resilience is called A Spiral of Wisdom. I use it in many of my workshops and its particular strength is in assisting people to develop more compassion for themselves, greater empowerment and a deeper understanding and acceptance of their lives and the cards they have so far been dealt. It helps them to reorient themselves towards new life and ways of being and acting.
